Battle of the Shoes

Silhouette Girl style fashion blog Pixie Market Rachel Comey

1. Cut Off Buckle Booties, $85 at Pixie Market
2. Fraction Booties, $225 by Rachel Comey

These shoes have similar features, but there's obvious differences as well. My vote will always go with Rachel Comey whenever a battle of the shoes begins, but the price, the lower heel, and the synthetic leather give the Pixie Market boots a good fight. However, I'm more keen on ankle boots at higher heel heights, but I'm not sure the lower of these two even qualify as "boots." More like "shooties," no?

Decisions, decisions.

Because here they come, 10/18/10

Silhouette Girl style blog Philadelphia wish list I want
1. Zara - $100, 2. American Apparel - $6, 3. Spring - $80, 4. Topshop - $80, 5. Modcloth - $30, 6. Topshop - $65

Nothing like a good ol' wish list to spark my interest in dressing myself. I'm uninspired. However, I'd like to note the two Topshop creations on my list. Normally I shun them into the category of things I think are overrated (Jeffrey Campbell Lita's = blogosphere shoe of fall 2010), but I quite like these. I guess I'm jumping on the 60's/70's autumnal dressing bandwagon...

On another note, here's my current playlist:
1. Where Nobody Knows - Kings of Leon
2. I Want You - Kings of Leon
3. No Cars Go - Arcade Fire
4. Somewhere in Between - 22 Jacks
5. 1,000,000 Years BC - the Misfits
6. Crown of Thorns - Social Distortion
7. Soul to Squeeze - Red Hot Chili Peppers
8. Dog Days Are Over - Florence & the Machine
9. Death or Glory - Social Distortion
10. Telling Them - Social Distortion

Can't say my music taste is terribly obscure. Sorry.

Also: I developed my film, but finished the process literally minutes before leaving school. Some of them might have come out well, but I didn't get a good look.

Also: I start my temporary job tomorrow. Hurrah.

Desiring...

1 - Aldo, 2 - Topshop, 3 - Oasis, 4 - Modcloth, 5 - Vegetarian Shoes, 6 - BB Dakota, 7 - Oasis

Nevermind that Christmas is in less than a week and surely gifts have been purchased for me.

Where I'd like to be:

But instead, if I choose to venture outdoors, I'll be greeted by a foot and a half of snow and dim Christmas lights. I hate winter, I need to get out of here. And I hate mentioning stuff like this, but the most excitement I could think of right now would involve a few drinks and sleds...

Yes, No, Maybe so...

1. Gray blazer $78 - Urban Outfitters, 2. Coral bag $39 - Urban Outfitters, 3. Gray 5" platforms $30 - Urban Original, 4. Coral dress $74 - Chickdowntown, 5. Printed skirt $11 - Forever 21, 6. Navy skirt $20 - Forever 21.

I noticed all of these items are gray, navy or coral. I have enough gray, but I always feel like it's a fresher alternative to black. And in some cases, navy serves the same purpose. But they're all different shades of the same color. What do you know.

Anyway, I ended up going downtown today before work and I would show what I bought, but my camera isn't my friend in tungsten lighting. So, what did I buy? ...a blazer from Zara that I believed to be $30, marked down from $70. I put it on hold as I ran to the bank and browsed other stores, and when I returned it came to $20. Magical. ...a scarf that I plan to wear in my hair from H&M. It's either pinkish or coral, but it's bright and would distract people from my gross hair. Yeah, I really need a hair cut. ...None of Your Beeswax lip balm and Sakura solid perfume from Lush, that store is fantastic. I was a little ecstatic after my blazer was only $20, otherwise I only would've purchased the lip balm.

I feel like a spoiled brat going on and on about my purchases. I even feel like a spoiled brat for making that visual wish list above. But really, anything over $40 is basically out of my price range but I pretend I may just buy those items. And I work now - before I was employed, I went shopping virtually never. Ah, my justification for shopping/retail therapy.

PS I'm now 100% obsessed with the shoes at Olsen Haus. They are totally vegan and nothing short of spectacular. Take a look. I'm just not sure if I'm ready to spend $200+ on a pair of shoes. But this company is really inspiring, and companies that make me feel good make me want stuff.

PPS I find it really ironic that the designer's name is Elizabeth Olsen, which is also the name of MK+A Olsen's younger sister. But they're huge fur fans (not hating on them, just observing), and this girl makes vegan shoes. Imagine that.

And even more!

And now these are coming into play. These are from Modcloth, and I love absolutely everything from there. Including these babies. They probably wouldn't work with the whole sock idea... but they look comfier, despite their lack of platform and 4" heel.

I'm itching to deposit my paycheck so badly. I'm thinking it may be a wise decision to wait just a little bit.

PS All of my recent lusts have been shoes. Just something I've noticed, hah.

Contemplating.

I get my paycheck tomorrow, and my sour mood is lingering so I may try some retail therapy. I know that's a crappy answer to problems, but I'll ignore that... Anyway, Urban Og offers free shipping on orders over $50, and there's a few pairs of sandals I may want in addition to these. I've loved these ever since I saw them months ago on Gojane, and I finally encountered them again.

The thing is, they're basically legitimate stripper heels except they're a little less tacky. I admire those who can wear such high heels without looking the least bit trashy (Taghrid is my favorite example). They're 5" inches, and the platform is a whopping 1.75", which means the difference is only about 3.25" which really isn't much. And I think I could try to wear them with socks, a la Alexa Chung:

Alexa Chung platforms British flag @ Silhouette Girl
to break them in and tone them down.

I can't decide if it's worth it or not. I think I dress a little more maturely than some sixteen year olds, but at the same time I'm thinking "I'm sixteen, I never do anything that cool, why bother?"

This is what bad moods do to me...

Edit: oh, and there's these:

Miss Me Vina 4 Platforms @ Silhouette Girl

Still a little undecided on color, if I want them at all. They're less intense looking, but the heel is 5" and the platform is 1.25" so I'm imagining they'd hurt more.

OH, AND QUESTION - does anyone have miraculous things for wearing heels from Dr. Scholl's or such? I'd be grateful to hear any suggestions.

I Want 5/22/09

1. Sunglasses - Forever 21, $6; 2. Dress - Forever 21, $20; 3. Fedora - Forever 21, $13; 4. Sunscreen - Nature's Gate, $8; 5. Belt - Forever 21, $8; 6. Sandals - Urban Outfitters, $60; 7. Handbag - Urban Outfitters, $70

Summer essentials. After much frustration producing this (Photobucket wasn't working, Polyvore won't upload Photobucket images anyway, etc.), here is my wishlist I've been dreaming about. Notice there's only a titch of black, and it's on the hat. I have never purchased a hat, but I'm going to try to protect my hair this summer, as well as my skin with cruelty free sunscreen. I always lust over the many bags at Urban, but this one is particularly appealing. Not to mention the sandals I thought I would want to cry about because they'd surely be leather are actually polyurethane (bad for the environment, but I can't bring myself to buy any new leather items).

All of this is a little different for me, but this summer I'm going to try to change things up. I want to set aside a specific time to run everyday although I literally cannot run, and I want to get dressed almost everyday rather than sitting in shorts and a tank top.

I'm convinced today is Saturday, but it's only Friday! So to all - have a fantastic weekend. I'm going to try to post again throughout the weekend, but it's the unofficial start of the summer season, so why not make it extra special?

Attempting!

Not anything related to clothing or fashion, but I had a bit of fun around the city with my new camera. It's so unfortunate that I thought I'd be working literally all day and wouldn't have the opportunity to go out, because I didn't bring any nice clothes. And I didn't even bring my make up bag... eeks, haha. Sometimes I love my city.

Oh, and the fliers in the bottom picture were religious related, but I swear they used a picture of Kate Moss as Mary.

I'm planning a picnic/adventure at a nearby park. Hopefully it'll be pretty and relatively free of er, animal waste!

And just a quick list for my own usage of things I may want to purchase:
-"Sex, Love and Rock 'n' Roll" by Social Distortion
-self titled CD by Social Distortion
-bags of studs for embellishing my clothing!
-a camera tripod! (note to anyone: if you have a cheap one that gets the job done, please tell me about it)
-various clothing, sigh
-a netbook or inexpensive laptop, sighhh again
-an Operation Ivy tshirt (loveee them and Rancid)
-various vegan cookbooks (note to anyone: know of any good ones?)
-Everyday Minerals makeup (anyone have it?)
-jewelry, I neeeed some more!

But knowing me, I'll be super thrifty and not get anything although I've been wanting some of these items for ages...

I Want!

Clockwise from top left - Forever 21, Urban Outfitters, ASOS, Urban Outfitters, Forever 21, Forever 21, Gojane.

I'm not even putting the prices because chances are I'll never get them. Well, just a bit of what I currently want. It appears to have no theme, and it doesn't. But that's just how I am I suppose.

I mention the weather way too often, but I am addicted to checking Accuweather.com, and today is supposed to be the coldest out of the next fifteen days. The lowest it's supposed to go is 45 degrees, which I think is mild. It's supposed to be nice this weekend, I'm pretty excited. And call me lame, but I believe daylight savings time begins next week which means it'll get dark later, around 7pm or so. Spring, spring, spring!

Oh, and just saying this again, if anyone wants to link with me, feel free to ask!

I Want

2.14
Clockwise from left: tank - Urban, jacket - Urban, belt - Urban, necklace - Forever 21, shoes - Gojane, bangle - Asos, jacket - Urban, tunic (probably a dress on me) - Urban.

Ohhhh, why don't I have a job?! But my birthday is in less than six weeks and I am determined to find a job as soon as possible. Places apparently don't want to hire fifteen year olds with no experience :/ Lately I've really been wanting a fake leather jacket and it seems like Urban has the best ones, although I have seen tons of people with theirs from H&M but I couldn't find it. And it seems as if I'm obsessed with Urban Outfitters, but I actually can't shop in their stores without getting too overwhelmed. So I just browse online and wish for things until they sell out...

Well, happy Valentine's Day to those of you who are celebrating it in any way! I have no plans and no money because I blew it all yesterday.

And on another note, Victoria's Secret will be coming out with an organic vegan skincare line sometime in March (I've heard). I'm not sure if I'll have enough money for it, but maybe I'll be able to get some of it for my birthday.

I Want!

I give up on polyvore and trying to make sets. So, here's just a list of shoes I want but will not get until my birthday or until I get a job.

Vans, $42

Alloy, $30

Target, $20

Doc Martens, $120

Delia's, $10

Alloy, $40

Really upsetting. I also wish that there were non-leather Doc Martens available, or at least that I could get some cool secondhand ones. I'd let my fear of other people's shoes go if I could get my hands on something similar to these!

My outfit was nothing special today and the lighting everywhere was crap, so I'll try to get to that sometime this week.
