Ramblings on blogging

I wore this on Tuesday to classes and my sister's apartment where I wrote a paper. I haven't been doing much aside from schoolwork and sleeping excessively - I've somehow ended up with yet another illness of sorts, so my mind has been functioning at only a portion of its regular ability. Anyway, this bag was a birthday gift and I'm thoroughly enjoying its minty studded goodness.

I haven't been blogging very much lately in all aspects of the word: photos, writing and "community involvement". It's been over three years since my first foray into the world of blogging, and naturally, I've since changed drastically. I desperately want to go through the list of blogs I follow and unsubscribe from those I no longer find interesting or relevant. And in all honesty, there's some on my feed that annoy me. Maybe it's just a reflection of my own laziness in the few moments I do have time to spare, but I haven't found much inspiration in other blogs lately.

I don't know, there's even times where I'm actually a bit disgusted in the consumptive habits of fellow bloggers, and I just feel like all "popular" blogs are very materialistic. I know that not all are, but I find it increasingly difficult to encounter exceptions to the rule. And at its core, I guess fashion blogging is materialistic, but I've always maintained that personal style blogging is something different. I'm becoming more intrigued by the artistic side of fashion - something I've wanted my own style to reflect for quite some time - and many of the blogs I follow don't express anything of artistic merit. It's a bit monotonous. I don't think that everyone needs to be groundbreaking or whatever - and of course, there's different realms of style blogs - but some of it is just getting old.

  1. I can definitely agree with your sentiments on blogging. It's become more materialistic but really that's just an accurate reflection of our society. I'm not saying it's the right thing, but I find it interesting that this is what fashion blogging as evolved into.

A few months ago I decided to start posting and to start writing simply for myself. That's why my personal style blog has evolved away from a consumeristic mentality and more a place where I can type out thoughts and share photos that I want to remember. It's honestly a daily battle and examination of why I am posting a certain post. I want to make sure I maintain the blog simply for me. Because at the end of the day I'm the only person who will end up reading it anyways. I'm not sure if this is making sense since I'm writing this at 7am, ha, but I hope I'm at least contributing something.

Perhaps it's time to just focus on your blog and different sources of inspiration. I find that when I look to other blogs for inspiration thats when I start to loose my voice (but that's just me...perhaps it doesn't affect other people in the same way).

  2. I agree with you completely. I haven't blog properly in ages, but then again who cares? My blog is about my personal style and my life and I don't want to get any profit out of it. I do it because I enjoy it and it does annoy me that some people out there change drastically because of their blogs. It just doesn't make sense, and maybe that's why I've always liked you. You are driven and your blog had these amazing qualities that other blogs don't. I'll never stop reading your posts because you're an inspiration.

    Love,
    Alex

    P.S. I love your shoes!
