You say goodbye, and I say hello.

Though I don't feel partial to 1960's style and the hippie aesthetic, I'm buying into it. And by buying in, I mean sitting at my computer looking at lovely photos while wishing I was in a huge field (with daisies) while dressed in a white flowy dress.

It just feels relevant - we've made it to the counterculture of the 60's in history class, and this week hosts a holiday (or two, depending on who you ask) devoted to the Earth, though celebrating it makes people tree hugging hippies. But there's nothing wrong with that.

Lula issue ten magazine drapey Meadham Kirchhoff Chloe Alexander McQueen

via Lula issue 10

I picked up Lula this past weekend with basically my last $20. So expensive, but it's pretty much like a book... pretty pages and interesting words and devoid of articles and advertisements that assume I think I'm fat.

Perfect.

And this draping? Ah, so lovely. I love that it's bad ass, yet pulled together (literally). Not trying too hard, but just the right amount.

Perfect.

It's a little chilly (comparatively) so I wore jeans today, thus no outfit photo. And I'm actually partaking in after-school activities - I went out for the play festival that my school has. So far, so good!

It seems that this May will be hectic and stressful, which is a shame because it's my favorite month. A myriad of AP exams in the beginning (including Stat and Spanish on the same day - oh my) and various projects. Hopefully I'll have enough time to enjoy the sun and nice weather I'm wishing for.

More mixed prints and a lucky start.

So, I frequently mention on here that I'm a high school student... which entails sitting in a dirty cafeteria for lunch, and waking up early (among other things). Normally the latter frustrates me to no end, but lo and behold, it's had its benefits. Am I trying to hint at something?

Why yes, yes I am. Getting up early (albeit a half-hour later than my alarm was set for... which actually turned out for the better) granted me entrance to the Outnet's $1 sale. Really. And I had a Visa gift card right in sight. Really. I tried to see if some Stella McCartney was in the running, particularly shoes, but no luck. After browsing, I magically came upon the perfect white cotton skirt I've been looking for since last year. Moschino, my size, $5.95 with shipping.

So, I request that you don't hate me... but I had to share this with people who know what Moschino is. I can only imagine sharing it with my friends would get confused looks and comments about maraschino cherries. I swear, my luck is fabulous, all the time.

This belt is vintage YSL, courtesy of my mom. Her sister worked at the YSL boutique when there was one in Philadelphia, so there were discounts available. I wish I had the guts to wear the dress it came with, but I'm not very polka-dotty. And this scarf reminds me of the fabulous prints from Miu Miu S/S 2010, which reminds me, I want to do a DIY inspired by that.

I must admit, I feel like such a bratty teenager talking about designers. But clothes are my hobby, while other people watch sports and shell out money for equipment. And really, I don't think I ever wear outfits over $100 (maybe excluding shoes).

Have a great weekend! xox Catherine

When In Doubt

Top - H&M, skirt - Forever 21, jewelry - various, shoes - Kimchi Blue

I feel like this is incredibly simple, yet a little out of my comfort zone. Mixing prints?! Who would do such a thing?! Pretty sure I might have garnered a few weird looks today, but I can't say that's abnormal. Today is Thursday which naturally means Friday comes next... but I'm bummed that as of now I lack plans, since tomorrow's junior prom. But I'd much rather take a nap or something than stand around with people I'm not too fond of. Maybe I'll go next year wearing a mindblowing vintage dress. Maybe.

It's really truly spring - so in case the green grass doesn't indicate that, here's me holding a dandelion:

I swear, this is by far the most beautiful spring I can remember... an appropriate follow-up for a horrible winter.

Hope you're all well!

Cardigan - H&M, top - Asos, pants - borrowed, jewelry - old, boots - Deena and Ozzy

The weather is crummy today, hence the indoor photos. But hey, I guess not every day of April can be sunny with just the right breeze.

Finalizing my submission for a scholarship to a summer program... wish me luck!

New York and misc.

I feel like I really built up my photos from NYC... but there's actually no landmarks/anything of the sort that indicate these are in New York. My sister and I wandered down to Greenwich Village/SoHo and found these cute little gardens along the way.

Cardigan - H&M, dress - ModCloth, shoes - Keds, bracelet - Ideeli, bag - Deux Lux

My sister bought me this dress for my birthday. It wasn't even on my wishlist (which is embarrassingly long), but she nailed it. And believe me, I'm incredibly difficult to shop for.

We generally have very different taste in clothing, but we do share pieces occasionally because it's rather difficult not to. However, we both love antique jewelry - while walking around the city we pretty much have to whisk ourselves away from antique malls. Please note her fabulous bracelets:

For dinner, I wanted to go to Red Bamboo but there wasn't enough seating, so we went to the Vegetarian's Paradise. Only in New York can I seem to find two vegetarian restaurants in a single block.

Last week I took a walk after school - my outfit was lackluster, but the weather was incredible. So naturally, right after I stepped out of the car from ceramics, I grabbed my camera and took a walk. I'm just kidding, I've never done that before. Until then.

There was a cool hippie van complete with tree air freshener:

And red tulips on a neighbor's lawn:

I love red tulips and the way the sunlight shines through them.

Hope your weekend was nice! xox Catherine

PS I'm stuck between a pair of 70's inspired platform wedge sandals and a skirt inspired by Alexander McQueen S/S 2010. Such a hard decision.

PPS I'm finalizing my application for a scholarship to a summer program at a semi-local university... I really hope it all works out and that my ceramic hand/tree hybrid didn't explode in the kiln because I need to snap a photo of it for my portfolio.

Just pulled some jerk-seasoned tofu out of the oven... used a recipe inspired by one I saw in a magazine, ironically from a restaurant in the city called Horizons. I would love to go on a date there! Yeah, it's expensive.

The heat continues as flowers keep coming up. This is such a beautiful spring so far - I'd almost say it makes up for the harsh winter. Almost.

Probably made a mistake of wearing these shoes in the heat, but I'm so excited they're fixed. I mean, it's been a month or so.

I'm so sick of high school - I really think I'm going to try an early admissions program, if possible...

Hope you're all well - halfway through the week! xox Catherine

Tuesday is beige!

Shirt - Olive and Olivia via Ideeli, jewelry - various, shorts - DIY, flats - Kimchi Blue

I would say this outfit is perfect for the weather we're having - but in school, it was not. The air conditioning will not be turned on until May. Yes, it's going up to 90 degrees tomorrow. I'd totally consider playing hooky, but I have a few obligations. And y'know, I'm obligated to go to school anyway.

Got my beige wedges fixed and I'm excited to wear them! I'm still loving the bleached out/tie dye effect that was the DIY project of last year. These shorts make me feel like a bad ass.

Enough said.

Life goes by so fast.

Dress - H&M, bracelet - formerly my grandma's, necklace - my mom, shoes - Kimchi Blue

Practically the most simple outfit ever - but that's what I was feeling, to be honest. But before I elaborate about my day, I must discuss this dress.

While in a cute boutique on Spring St. in NYC, I saw a girl wearing a purple-ish 40's inspired dress. Her hair was awesome and just rocked it. Lo and behold, I found the same dress in H&M for $25. It fit me very well, so I purchased it. I toted it around with me, and at Vegetarian's Paradise (2) I realized that I had forgotten the bag in the cab. No, I didn't find it - it was gone and I bought another. So I'm telling myself I'd better love this dress - which I absolutely do. I really want to find other dresses of a similar style... I always thought this length wouldn't work on me because I'm a little short, but if anything I feel taller. Basically, I want a million 40's/40's inspired dresses.

Anyway, today was a boring old Monday. Apparently I don't feel like looking at the camera... and in shots where my eyes are focused on the camera, they're half shut. I guess I'm quite tired!

Hope you're all well, xox Catherine

Can you feel...

Cardigan - vintage, dress - LA Made, bracelets - all antique of some sort, socks - Target, boots - Deena and Ozzy

As I sit here and type this, I'm simultaneously glancing at my homework agenda, which includes way more nonsensical writing than I'd prefer. I probably should get to that, but it's far more stylish to be all groggy when I'm sitting in my classes. Kidding. I'll just have extra tea tomorrow morning...

My spring break has been fun, relaxing and even a little adventurous. But way too fast - and my next scheduled day off is at the end of May for Memorial Day weekend. However, spring's officially here (it's gorgeous outside - weather and visually) and that soothes my nerves a bit.

Today I went to see the Lion King musical, and it was fantastic. It was truly incredible - I swear I almost started crying at parts because it was so beautiful. Then I went over to my aunt's for Easter dinner. I probably wouldn't wear this too school - it's a bit dressy - but I found it suitable for this perfect spring day.

Happy Easter, everyone, and hope you're all well.

I love the Lanvin dress in the third photo, and the setting of this editorial is so cool. I love unconventional spots - not saying it's never been done before, but it's a bit of a contrast from the lovely designer clothing.

I've been itching to watch True Blood season 2 for so long... I don't actually have HBO which presents a barrier from watching it regularly, but I catch it when I can.

I just love Sookie and Bill in the show - and Anna Paquin and Stephen Moyer in real life. She's so cute, and he's just plain sexy.

PS I seem to have taken a break from blogging - my week has been very nice but not centered around my computer. I have only scheduled posts once or twice, so it's not very like me to do that... stay tuned for a few photos from my trip to NYC and other miscellaneous spring break activities.
